Biography

Marcel Loomans is an associate professor at the Department of the Built Environment, Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e). His research focuses on Indoor Environmental Quality (IEQ) Performance, encompassing areas of expertise such as building technology, environmental studies, building physics, and sustainable energy performance. His interests lie primarily in the performance of indoor environments with a focus on thermal and air quality. Marcel emphasizes the need for multidisciplinary collaboration in addressing indoor environmental quality, particularly in healthcare environments and residential spaces. He has conducted real-life assessments, integrating physical and human sensors, to improve understanding of how users interact with buildings. Currently, his research is centered on indoor air quality and ventilation, recognizing the critical role users play in valuing buildings in terms of health, comfort, and productivity. Marcel obtained his PhD in 1998 on the topic of indoor air flow measurement and simulation. He has worked with the Dutch Applied Research Institute TNO and returned to TU/e in 2006. He has been involved in numerous national and international projects, advised over 60 MSc students, and supervised five PhD candidates. He has contributed to more than 30 scientific journals and 75 conference proceedings.
