Biography

Marcel Schlaf is a Professor of Chemistry at the University of Guelph, Canada. He received his Diplom-Chemiker degree from the University of Würzburg, Germany in 1992 and completed his Ph.D. in Inorganic Chemistry at the University of Toronto, Canada in 1996. He is known for his work as an NSERC post-doctoral fellow at the University of Ottawa in 1997 and at Brookhaven National Laboratory in the USA in 1998. In 1999, he joined the University of Guelph as an Assistant Professor and has progressed to the rank of Professor by 2011. His research interests include Transition Metal Catalyzed Transformations, the development of new ionic hydrogenation and hydrogenolysis catalysts, organometallic chemistry, and sustainable systems. He also explores the remediation of red mud and coordination chemistry, along with the biomass conversion processes, contributing to fundamental policy issues in chemistry.
