Biography

Marcel Verheijen operates high-end TEM microscopes, a part of Solliance, which combines R&D activities on thin-film solar cells at the Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e), TNO, Holst Centre, ECN, and Imec Forschungszentrum Jülich. Physically housed within the Philips Innovation labs on the Eindhoven High Tech Campus, he serves as a TEM application specialist. As a part-time Assistant Professor in the Plasma & Materials Processing group at TU/e, under the supervision of Professor Erwin Kessels, Verheijen contributes to the Applied Physics research groups with his expertise. He has co-authored numerous publications and has acted as a co-promoter for multiple PhD students. His research interests encompass high resolution TEM characterization of multi-layer systems, nanowires, ALD deposited nano-particles, and nano-laminates. At Philips, Verheijen has been involved in materials characterization across various systems including IC devices, rewritable DVD materials, MRI contrast agents, and OLED solar cell devices, with a current focus on failure analysis and yield improvement. Verheijen's work emphasizes solving industrial challenges in materials science while addressing pertinent scientific inquiries.
