Biography

Marcel Weber's research focuses on the philosophy of life sciences and general philosophy of science. His teaching covers general epistemology and modern philosophy, especially Kant. He studied molecular biology and philosophy at the Universities of Basel and Konstanz. Weber obtained his Ph.D. in philosophy at the University of Konstanz in 1996 and completed his Habilitation at Leibniz University Hannover in 2002. He was appointed a Swiss National Science Foundation Professor at the University of Basel and a Full Professor at the University of Konstanz in 2011. He has held visiting appointments at the Minnesota Center for Philosophy of Science, the Max Planck Institute for the History of Science in Berlin, Humboldt University in Berlin, the University of Zurich, and the University of California, Irvine. Weber is a member of the German National Academy of Sciences Leopoldina and Academia Europaea.
