Dr. Marcela Estrada

Biography

Marcela Maria Estrada, M.D., is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Ophthalmology & Vision Science at UC Davis Health. She specializes in Pediatric Ophthalmology, providing both medical and surgical care to children and adults with a wide range of congenital and acquired eye and vision problems. Dr. Estrada has a special clinical interest in congenital juvenile cataracts, retinopathy of prematurity, pediatric uveitis, and strabismus. Her innovative approach to care emphasizes the importance of developing a warm and supportive relationship with families, ensuring that children feel safe, respected, and engaged during their treatment. In addition to her clinical work, Dr. Estrada is passionate about reducing ocular health disparities in underserved pediatric populations and actively participates in training the next generation of ophthalmologists. She serves on the Young Ophthalmologist Committee of the American Association of Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus, advocating for improved care and access for children. Dr. Estrada completed her B.A. in Human Biology at Stanford University and her M.D. at the University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine, followed by an internship in Internal Medicine and residency in Ophthalmology at the University of Washington, along with a fellowship in Pediatric Ophthalmology at Children's Hospital in Philadelphia.
