Biography

Marcela Fuentes is an Associate Professor at Northwestern University in the School of Communication. She focuses on the analysis of symbolic, embodied, time-based modes of communication through social justice intervention, street protests, and participatory art. Her work explores emerging modalities of aesthetic expression and civic engagement, with particular emphasis on transnational mobilization and trans-feminist struggles. She has received numerous national and international fellowships and grants, including the Fulbright Fellowship and the Andrew W. Mellon postdoctoral research grant. Her research and teaching interests encompass feminist theory performance, embodiment, affect theory, and digital humanities, and she is well-published in various high-profile academic journals and edited volumes. Fuentes has actively participated in feminist collectives and served as an external consultant for the Buenos Aires Performance Biennial.
