Professor Dr. Marcelle Freiman

Biography

Marcelle Freiman is an Associate Professor at Macquarie University, specializing in Creative Writing and pedagogy. She has published extensively in the field, with notable works including her 2021 poetry collection 'Spirit Level' and various articles on the practice and theory of creative writing. Her research interests focus on cognition and creativity, particularly theories related to extended distributed cognition in the writing process. Over the years, Freiman's poetry has appeared in numerous literary anthologies and journals both in Australia and internationally, including 'Antipodes' and 'Westerly'. She has also supervised multiple PhD and MRes theses in creative writing and literary studies, receiving recognition for her mentorship, including a Vice-Chancellor's Commendation. Her research contributions include leading projects that explore cognitive approaches to writing and innovative techniques for content delivery in creative practice.
