Biography

Marcello Fidanzio is a full professor at the Faculty of Theology in Lugano, affiliated with the Università della Svizzera italiana. He is the Director of the Institute of Culture and Archaeology of Biblical Lands and a member of the Goren Monti Ferrari Center for Judaica. He directs the research commission and is a member of the international relations commission. Fidanzio founded and leads the summer school "Jerusalem", which focuses on archaeology and the study of the Bible, attracting twelve universities. He has been a visiting professor at the École Biblique et Archéologique Française in Jerusalem, the University of Lausanne, the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, the University of Turin, and the Theological Faculty of Central Italy in Florence, among others. In the spring semester of 2025, he will be a visiting professor at the Pontifical Biblical Institute in Rome. He has received several awards for his research, including the Best Scholarly Book in Archaeology from the Biblical Archaeology Society in 2019 and the ADUTEI “Press Award” for the television program "Journey into Great Beauty: Jerusalem" in 2023. His research interests include Biblical Environment, Dead Sea Scrolls, Qumran Archaeology, Material Culture of Second Temple Judaism, and Christian Memories in the Holy Land.
