Marcelo Cypel is a Full Professor in the Department of Surgery at the University of Toronto and a Staff Thoracic Surgeon at the University Health Network (UHN). He completed his MD in 1999 and underwent general surgery and thoracic surgery residency programs, finishing in 2004. In 2005, he began a post-doctoral research fellowship at the Latner Thoracic Surgery Laboratory. His research has been published in high-impact journals such as Science Translational Medicine and the New England Journal of Medicine. His main clinical interests include minimally invasive thoracic surgery, lung cancer treatment, artificial lung devices, and lung transplantation. He has been awarded the Canada Research Chair in Lung Transplantation and is involved in innovative clinical trials. Cypel is a member of the American Association for Thoracic Surgery and a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.
