Biography

Dr. Marcelo Dias obtained his Bachelor's degree in Physics from the State University of São Paulo, Brazil. He then completed his M.Sc. in Theoretical Physics at the same institution. In 2012, he earned his Ph.D. in Physics from the University of Massachusetts, USA, where he researched mechanics of origami structures and their growth mechanisms. Dr. Dias has worked as a researcher on a broad range of topics in structural engineering and applied mathematics at Brown University School of Engineering (USA), Aalto University (Finland), and the Nordic Institute for Theoretical Physics KTH (Sweden). Before joining the University of Edinburgh, he served as an Associate Professor of Mechanical Engineering at Aarhus University in Denmark, where he led a research group focused on 'Mechanical Metamaterials and Soft Matter'. His research interests include Theoretical Mechanics, Soft Condensed Matter Physics, Applied Mathematics, Differential Geometry, Stability Theory, and Fluid-Structure Interactions.
