Dr. Marcelo Santos

Biography

Marcelo Santos is a Professor and Head of the Department of Geodesy and Geomatics Engineering at the University of New Brunswick. He has been a faculty member since 2000, focusing on geodesy, geomatics engineering, and related fields. He earned his Bachelor’s degree in Cartographic Engineering from Rio de Janeiro State University in 1982, and later completed his Masters in Geophysics at the Rio de Janeiro National Observatory in 1990, followed by a PhD in Geodesy from the University of New Brunswick in 1995. His diverse professional background includes working as a consultant for private and governmental organizations and as an Associate Researcher at the Department of Geophysics at the Rio de Janeiro National Observatory. Santos has contributed to numerous conferences and has a significant publication record in areas such as Space Physical Geodesy and GNSS. As a member of various scientific societies, he has held leadership roles, including President of the International Association of Geodesy Commission 4. His research interests encompass GNSS positioning, geodesy adjustments, and modeling geodetic phenomena. Santos is also recognized for his involvement in educational initiatives and editorial work for scientific journals.
