Professor Thompson holds a Doctor of Philosophy from the University of Oxford, a Master of Laws from the University of Ottawa, and a Bachelor of Laws from PUC-Rio. Professor Thompson has a deep interest in Internet regulation in China and is particularly focused on the justice issues raised by China’s Social Credit System. He has been a visiting fellow at the Hans-Bredow-Institute for Media Research at the University of Hamburg and has presented at leading institutions across numerous jurisdictions. His work has been cited by the Brazilian Supreme Court in leading constitutional review cases related to software and Internet regulation in Brazil. His professional experience includes practicing law at a technology-focused boutique firm in Brazil and serving as General Counsel for the Brazilian Innovation Agency.
