Biography

Marcetta Darensbourg is a Distinguished Professor at Texas A&M University in the College of Arts and Sciences, focusing her research on bioinspired and bioorganometallic chemistry. With her work, she aims to synthesize and develop robust, highly active hydrogen-producing catalysts using earth-abundant transition metals and ligand environments inspired by biological systems, specifically mimicking enzyme active sites such as hydrogenases. Her research includes detailed electronic structure analysis using Mössbauer spectroscopy and computational chemistry. Darensbourg's innovative work explores the interactions of metal complexes with various ligands and their implications for redox reactions, particularly in the context of sustainable hydrogen production. She has received numerous accolades for her contributions to the field, including the Willard Gibbs Medal from the American Chemical Society and recognition as an SEC Professor of the Year.
