Professor Dr. Marcial Gonzalez

Biography

Marcial Gonzalez is an Associate Professor in the School of Mechanical Engineering at Purdue University. He specializes in multifaceted research areas including predictive, multi-scale modeling and simulation of microstructure evolution in confined granular systems, particularly focusing on manufacturing processes and their relationship to product fabrication performance. His work encompasses several application areas of significant interest such as particulate product processes—covering flow, mixing, segregation, consolidation, and compaction of powders—as well as continuous manufacturing techniques, including Quality Design and model predictive control. Moreover, he investigates the performance characteristics of pharmaceutical solid products like tensile strength and swelling disintegration, alongside exploring biomaterials and energetic materials subject to various conditions including quasi-static and near-resonant impact. His fundamental research interests also extend to combustion particles and powders. Dr. Gonzalez has received multiple Seed Success Awards from the U.S. Department of Energy and the Air Force Research Laboratory, highlighting his successful endeavors in the field. He has been recognized for his contributions with awards such as the 20th Annual Robert J. Melosh Competition Finalist and the USACM Travel Award for the 9th World Congress on Computational Mechanics held in Sydney, Australia.
