Biography

Marco Bassini serves as an Assistant Professor at the Tilburg Institute for Law, Technology, and Society (TILT), Tilburg University, where he focuses on fundamental rights in the context of artificial intelligence. He teaches courses on regulation, governance, AI law, and technology within the master’s program in Law, Technology, and Society, as well as the Global Law bachelor program. He is the principal investigator for a Dutch-government-funded research grant titled “RetrAIn – Enforcing Constitutional Rights in the Age of Generative Artificial Intelligence.” He has been selected as an expert by the European AI Office for the development of a General Purpose AI Code of Practice. Additionally, Professor Bassini has previously held the position of Adjunct Professor of Constitutional Law and Internet Law at Bocconi University and was the Coordinator for their LLM in Law and Internet Technology from 2020 to 2023. He obtained his PhD in Constitutional Law and European Law from the University of Verona in 2016 and is a qualified lawyer with the Bar of Milan, Italy, since 2013. With over a decade of experience, he has effectively combined academic research with legal practice, serving as data protection counsel in international law firms in Milan and Rome. He has also acted as a Data Protection Officer for a leading Italian company and provided advisory services to the Italian Communications Authority and the Italian Ministry of Technological Innovation, focusing on data protection law, AI regulation, and media law.
