Biography

Marco Borghi has collaborated with our Faculty since the first academic year. He obtained his doctorate in law from the University of Fribourg after practicing as a lawyer and notary. In 1983, he was appointed full professor at the Faculty of Law of the University of Fribourg where he founded and directed the Interdisciplinary Institute of Ethics and Human Rights (which received the title of UNESCO Chair in Democracy) and chaired the Senate. For several years, he was a member of the working group on federal government reform, as well as the Swiss Science Council and the Federal Competition Commission, and continues to be a member of other federal and cantonal commissions. He is the author of numerous publications, primarily in the field of public law. He participates in an interdisciplinary research group on economic ethics and has directed research funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation, for example, on the effectiveness of patient rights and corruption. At USI, he is the director of the Interfaculty Institute of Law (IDUSI) and chairs the Research Commission.
