Dr. Marcus Atlas

Biography

Professor Marcus Atlas is a surgeon scientist specializing in ear and hearing disorders, involving applied clinical and basic science research. He holds the Foundation Chair of Otolaryngology at the University of Western Australia and is the Head of the Ear Science Centre as well as the Director of the Ear Science Institute Australia. An invited member of the Court of Examiners for the Royal College of Surgeons since 2006, he has served in various committee positions for state, national, and international organizations and is currently the incoming Chairman for the Committee of Otology Neurotology Otorhinological Societies. Professor Atlas is also the Editor of the Australian Journal of Otolaryngology and serves on the editorial boards for national and international journals. His directorship has seen participation in international multicenter trials employing innovative implant hearing devices, with studies focusing on ear surgery and audiology. His unique research program on cell biology and molecular biology related to human tympanic membranes and the inner ear has attracted significant attention. With over 100 international publications and contributions to educational resources used worldwide, Professor Atlas's expertise extends across surgery for ear and skull base conditions, clinical research in otolaryngology, and education.
