Dr. Marcus Herz

Biography

Marcus Herz is a Professor at the University of Gothenburg specializing in social work with a focus on migration, racism, gender, and youth culture. His work predominantly involves qualitative and ethnographic methodologies, including interviews and observational studies. Herz's research addresses critical issues in social work theory and practice, emphasizing the importance of self-reflexivity and power dynamics in service delivery. He is the program leader for TESMI, which investigates the challenges of street-level social work concerning migrant populations across Nordic countries. His previous projects, including EUMARGINS and research on unaccompanied refugee children, analyze the complexities of integration and the systemic failures of support structures. Herz also examines the role of civil society in addressing urban segregation and social exclusion.
