Professor Marcus R. Makowski has been the director of the Department of Diagnostic and Interventional Radiology at Klinikum rechts der Isar of the Technical University of Munich since 2020. His scientific focus is on quantitative imaging applications of artificial intelligence methods in radiology, as well as on the experimental study of quantitative molecular imaging and extracellular matrix imaging. Clinically, he works on evaluating and establishing new quantitative biomarkers in radiology. He completed his medical studies and dissertation at Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich in 2007, and his PhD studies at King's College London, School of Medicine, in 2010. In 2013, he received his habilitation from Charité and was awarded the Wilhelm Conrad Röntgen Prize. In 2016, he was appointed to the prestigious W2 Heisenberg Professorship at Charité. His clinical training was completed at the Department of Radiology at Charité, where he also served as Deputy Clinic Director. He has received various awards including the Marie-Curie-Ring in 2018 and the Heisenberg-Stipend in 2014.
