Biography

Marcus studied medicine in Frankfurt, Vienna, Kiel, and Edmonton. He began research on psoriasis with a thesis focused on immunogenetics under the guidance of Enno Christophers and Wolfram Sterry. His postdoctoral work was funded by the German Research Council (DFG) at the laboratory of Georg Stingl in Vienna from 1993 to 1995. Following that, he completed his specialist training at Charité in Berlin. He was appointed as an associate professor of dermatology at NTNU in Trondheim, Norway, in 2000. In 2002, he began working at Umeå University, where he was appointed head of the Division of Dermatovenereology in 2012 and became a full professor and distinguished teacher in 2014. He is affiliated with the Centre for Pharmacoepidemiology at Karolinska Institutet and has served as an associate editor for the British Journal of Dermatology. He is involved in various expert groups, providing senior scientific advice to Swedish public authorities and decision-makers. Additionally, he coordinates the master thesis for the medicine program at Umeå University.
