Marcus Yio is a Research Fellow and Facility Manager at the UKCRIC Advanced Infrastructure Materials Laboratory within the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Imperial College London. He holds a Bachelor of Engineering in Civil Engineering with first class honours from the University of Sheffield, a Master of Science in General Structural Engineering with Distinction, and a PhD in Concrete Durability from Imperial College London. His PhD research focused on the development of fluorescence laser scanning confocal microscopy for 3D real-time imaging of cementitious materials. Prior to his current role, he worked as a postdoctoral researcher at Heriot-Watt University, where he developed green building products from biopolymers and construction wastes. His main research interests lie in the microscopic characterization and durability of cementitious materials, and he is currently responsible for setting up the AIM laboratory and developing expertise in advanced characterization techniques including nanomechanical testing, thermal sorption analyses, and X-ray vibrational spectroscopic methods, particularly in applications related to civil engineering materials.
