Biography

Mare Sarr is an Associate Professor of International Affairs and African Studies at the School of International Affairs at Penn State University. He holds a Ph.D. in Economics from University College London, a Master of Science in Economics from the University of Warwick, and another Master of Science in Economics and Finance from the Toulouse School of Economics. Additionally, he has a bachelor's degree in Management from Reims Management School in France. His research interests focus on environmental and natural resource economics, institutional change in development, and political economy. Prior to joining Penn State University, he served as an Associate Professor at the University of Cape Town, where he was also the director of the Environmental Policy Research Unit from 2010 to 2012. His work includes publications in respected journals such as the World Bank Economic Review, the Journal of Legal Studies, and Environmental Resource Economics, along with contributions to policy papers, commissioned reports, and book chapters. Sarr has been invited as a visiting researcher at top universities, including Penn State since January 2016.
