Biography

Marea Chernoff is an active freelance musician based in Vancouver and serves as the principal oboe of the Kamloops Symphony Orchestra. She has performed with various orchestras and ensembles, including the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, Vancouver Opera Orchestra, Broadway Canada, Lions Gate Sinfonia, Okanagan Symphony, Vancouver Island Symphony, Ballet B.C., and the CBC Vancouver Radio Orchestra. Marea has actively engaged in chamber and orchestral concerts and has been featured on CBC Radio. Her involvement in early music includes historical performance on the Baroque oboe and recorder, regularly performing with the Victoria Baroque and the Pacific Baroque Orchestra among others. She is a member of the Vancouver-based Ad Mare Wind Quintet and the Cascadia Reed Quintet and frequently gives recitals across the province. Marea is a dedicated educator, teaching oboe at the University of British Columbia, Capilano University, and Douglas College, and she has led various educational initiatives including a recorder program at the VSO School of Music. Marea holds a Bachelor of Music degree from the University of British Columbia, an Artist Diploma from the Vancouver Academy of Music, and a Master of Music in Performance from Boston University, where she was elected to the Phi Kappa Lambda music honour society. She continues to advance her education in historical performance through workshops and summer academies.
