Dr. Margaret Brandeau

Biography

Professor Brandeau is the Coleman F. Fung Professor of Management Science and a Professor of Health Policy (by Courtesy) at Stanford University. Her research primarily focuses on the development of applied mathematical economic models to support health policy decisions. Recent projects have centered on HIV prevention and treatment programs, controlling the opioid epidemic, and policies aimed at minimizing the spread of infectious diseases including COVID-19. She has served as Principal Investigator and Co-Principal Investigator for a wide range of funded research projects and is a Fellow of the Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences (INFORMS). Brandeau has received several prestigious awards including the Pierskalla Prize for research excellence in health care management science and the President’s Award from INFORMS, which recognizes significant contributions to the welfare of society. Her academic journey includes earning degrees in Mathematics and Operations Research from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and a PhD in Engineering-Economic Systems from Stanford University. Throughout her career, she has been an influential member of various advisory committees and professional organizations, emphasizing diversity, equity, and inclusion in research communities.
