Biography

Margaret M. Chou is an Associate Professor in the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the Perelman School of Medicine, University of Pennsylvania. Her research focuses on understanding the mechanisms underlying malignant transformation, particularly in bone and soft tissue tumors (BSTTs). Her work investigates the cellular changes that contribute to the transformation from normal cells to cancerous ones, emphasizing the alterations in cellular functions such as proliferation, survival, and motility. Dr. Chou’s laboratory aims to elucidate the critical pathogenic factors in the development of BSTTs, which predominantly affect children and are often associated with specific chromosomal translocations. The laboratory is engaged in identifying signaling pathways that play pivotal roles in these processes and in determining the molecular mechanisms by which the TRE17/USP6 oncogene influences tumor biology and the tumor microenvironment. The ultimate goal of her research is to develop novel therapeutic strategies for these challenging cancers.
