Biography

Margaret Coombe is a Tutor in British Medieval History at Lady Margaret Hall, University of Oxford. Her research focuses on the religious history of North East England, particularly through the lens of Latin manuscripts detailing the lives of saints produced in the twelfth century. Coombe organized a significant conference titled 'Northern English Saints, 600-1500' in collaboration with colleagues from universities including Oxford and Warwick in 2015, which culminated in the publication of a volume by Brepols in 2017. This volume includes her paper entitled 'What Performance: Songs of St Godric in the Earliest Manuscripts'. Currently, she is preparing forthcoming publications such as a text translation and commentary of Reginald Durham’s Life of St Godric of Finchale, and a collaborative edition of the French Life of St Godric. Additionally, Coombe is involved in providing tailored study skills tutorials to students, covering important academic practices such as time management and essay writing. In 2014, she received a student-led OUSU teaching award for her contributions to education in her field, and she was nominated again in 2018 for her ongoing impact.
