Biography

Margaret Faultless is an internationally renowned specialist in historical performance practice and a prominent violinist. With a rich career as a performer, she has interpreted music from Monteverdi to contemporary compositions, demonstrating her versatility. Early in her career, Margaret specialized in contemporary music, performing as a violinist with the Aquarius ensemble and serving as the co-leader for the West End musical, Chess. She has also worked as the assistant leader for the Scottish Ballet Orchestra and freelanced with the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra and the Academy of St Martin in the Fields. Her longstanding interest in eighteenth-century performance practice has led her to explore historical instruments and period performance styles rigorously. Margaret's notable roles include principal player for Roger Norrington's London Classical Players and Andrew Parrot's Taverner Consort, as well as membership in the Gainsborough String Quartet. She has co-led the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment and directed significant educational programs for young professionals. Additionally, Margaret has led the Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra and is a distinguished guest leader for various orchestras, including the London Philharmonic Orchestra and the Russian National Orchestra. She is an artistic director and passionate chamber musician, and she regularly lectures on performance practice. Margaret is also the Director of Performance at the Faculty of Music and has a commitment to mentoring students in historical performance.
