Dr. Margaret Hutchison

Biography

Margaret Hutchison is a Senior Lecturer at the University of New South Wales, specializing in the history of Australian war art and its implications on national identity and the cultural legacies of war. She earned her PhD from the Australian National University and has held several academic positions, including at the Australian Catholic University. Her research critically examines the policies and practices surrounding care for Australian veterans, with a current focus on veteran suicide in Australia. Hutchison is the author of the book 'Painting War: History of Australia's World War Art Scheme' published by Cambridge University Press in 2019. She has co-edited several volumes, including 'Portraits of Remembrance: Painting, Memory and the Great War' and 'Exiting War: The British Empire 1918-20 Moment'. Her ongoing research is supported by an Australian Research Council Discovery Project that investigates the historical and social dimensions of veteran suicide.
