Dr. Margaret Leary

Biography

Margaret Leary is a retired Librarian Emerita from the University of Michigan Law School. She became the director of the Law Library in 1984 and held that position until her retirement in 2011. Prior to her directorship, she served as the assistant director from 1973 to 1981 and as the associate director from 1982 to 1984. Throughout her career, Leary focused on building a comprehensive library collection to support research in the legal field across a wide range of disciplines. She developed robust services to support faculty research effectively. In the fall of 2011, University of Michigan Press published her biography of William W. Cook, which provides insights into Cook’s family background, his education in Michigan, and his significant achievements in New York City, ultimately leading to his generous contributions to the University of Michigan Law School.
