Biography

Margaret McGovern is the Chief Executive Officer of Yale Medicine and the Deputy Dean for Clinical Affairs at the Yale School of Medicine. In this role, she leads a rapidly growing multispecialty medical practice with more than 1,600 physicians. Before joining Yale, she was the Knapp Professor of Pediatrics and Dean for Clinical Affairs at the Renaissance School of Medicine at Stony Brook University. McGovern has a significant background in pediatrics, having served as the chair of Pediatrics and physician-in-chief at Stony Brook Children's Hospital, where she was instrumental in expanding clinical research and education programs. She earned her PhD in genetics from Mount Sinai Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences and received her MD from the Mount Sinai School of Medicine. McGovern completed her residency in pediatrics and fellowships in clinical molecular genetics at Mount Sinai Hospital, where she also served on the faculty. As a professor, she has directed programs focused on the integration of molecular genetic diagnostic testing into clinical practice, particularly for inborn errors of metabolism. She is recognized as a world authority on sphingolipidoses, a group of inherited disorders that primarily affect the pediatric population.
