Dr. Margaret Mckerchar

Biography

Margaret McKerchar is an Emeritus Professor at the University of New South Wales, recognized for her outstanding academic achievements and service to the profession. She holds a Bachelor of Accounting from Canberra College of Advanced Education (CCAE), an MBA from the University of New England (UNE), and a PhD from UNSW. Margaret was appointed as Emeritus Professor in April 2015 after a distinguished career, which included joining the Australian School of Taxation in January 2005 and serving as Head of School from July 2009 to December 2010. Prior to this, she was an Associate Professor of Taxation Accounting at the University of Sydney. Margaret has also held various prestigious visiting professorships and research fellowships at institutions such as St Andrews, San Jose State University, Curtin University, and the University of South Australia, among others. Her efforts in advancing Australian taxation education are recognized through her leadership roles, including serving years on the CPA Australia's NSW Divisional Council, where she was President in 2009. She was also a founding member of the Editorial Board for the Journal of the Australasian Tax Teachers Association and has been honored with several awards, including the Graham Hill Medal and the President's Award from CPA Australia. Margaret's research interests focus on taxpayer compliance, methodological approaches to tax administration, tax morale, and policy.
