Biography

Margaret “Meg” Ryan is a Lecturer in Law at Harvard Law School and has previously served as a Judge on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Armed Forces since December 2006. She was appointed as a Professorial Lecturer in Law at George Washington University Law School in 2012 and has been an Elected Member of the American Law Institute since 2015. Prior to her judicial appointments, Judge Ryan was a partner in litigation and appellate practices with Wiley Rein & Fielding LLP and Bartlit Beck Herman Palenchar & Scott LLP, and also worked as an associate at Cooper, Carvin & Rosenthal. Her notable career includes clerking for Justice Thomas on the Supreme Court of the United States and serving as a law clerk for Judge Luttig on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit. She completed active duty in the United States Marine Corps, where she held various leadership roles including Staff Officer and Company Commander. Judge Ryan graduated summa cum laude from the University of Notre Dame Law School and is a graduate of Knox College.
