Biography

Margaret L. Satterthwaite is a Professor at NYU School of Law and serves as the Faculty Director of the Center for Human Rights and Global Justice, as well as the Global Justice Clinic. Her research interests focus on legal empowerment, vicarious trauma, and the well-being of human rights workers, utilizing interdisciplinary methods to approach human rights issues. Satterthwaite has extensive experience in the field, having clerked for Judge Betty Fletcher on the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals and worked with numerous human rights organizations, including Amnesty International and the National Commission for Truth and Justice in Haiti. She has authored and co-authored over a dozen human rights reports and numerous scholarly articles and book chapters. Satterthwaite has served as a consultant for various UN agencies and special rapporteurs and has held positions on the boards of human rights organizations. She earned her JD magna cum laude from NYU School of Law, her MA from the University of California at Santa Cruz, and her BA from Eugene Lang College, The New School University.
