Biography

Margaret Weir is the Wilson Professor of Political Science and International Public Affairs at Brown University. Her research focuses on social policy, poverty, and urban politics in the U.S. and Europe. She holds a PhD from the University of California, Berkeley, where she also served as the Avice M. Saint Chair of Public Policy. Weir has been a senior fellow at the Brookings Institution and has held the John G. Winant Visiting Professorship in American Government at the Rothermere Institute, University of Oxford. She is the co-director of the Stone Project on Inequality at the Watson Institute. Weir is the author and editor of several influential books and has published over 40 journal articles and book chapters. Her works include titles such as 'Who Gets The New Politics Insecurity', 'Schooling Race, Class, and Decline of the Democratic Ideal', and 'The Politics of Social Policy in the United States'. Weir has received numerous fellowships and awards, including the Berlin Prize and the Norton Long Career Achievement Award from the American Political Science Association. She is a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and the National Academy of Social Insurance.
