Dr. Margaux Suteau

Biography

Margaux Suteau is a Fellow in the Department of Social Policy at the London School of Economics. Her research interests lie at the intersection of household, education, and labor economics. She holds a PhD in Economics from CY Cergy Paris Université and ESSEC Business School. Suteau's work examines how beliefs, norms, and technology shape child development and educational choices, as well as the factors contributing to gender inequality in the labor market. A central theme of her research focuses on digital parenting as a new form of parental investment in children's development, utilizing nationally representative survey data and experimental methods to explore the impact of parental beliefs on children's online experiences. Additionally, her broader research agenda investigates women's underrepresentation in scientific fields and how social norms generate gender disparities in the labor market. She provides causal evidence on how early exposure to technology influences women's participation in STEM fields and examines how institutional changes, such as reforms in inheritance rights, affect women's education and labor supply. Ongoing projects include studying the beliefs around workplace harassment and their influence on support for victims, as well as analyzing the impact of exposure to gender role attitudes on political polarization among young adults. Suteau's research has received competitive grants from funding bodies in the UK, France, and Spain, and she is committed to mentoring students while contributing to academic communities.
