Biography

Margo De Koster studied History and Sociology at Vrije Universiteit Brussels, where she worked from 1998 to 2006 as a researcher with the Belgian National Fund for Scientific Research. She obtained her PhD in History with a focus on girl delinquency during the interwar period in 2003. Following this, she extended her research to include youth studies, urban crime, and policing practices from the nineteenth to twentieth centuries. Currently, she serves as an Assistant Professor of Historical Criminology at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, as well as holding an Assistant Professorship in Social History at Ghent University. Her research involves Empirical Normative Studies, with expertise in the history of crime and criminal justice throughout the 19th and 20th centuries, juvenile delinquency and youth justice systems, police practices, urban crime, and social control.
