Biography

Margo Schlanger is the Wade H. Dores M. McCree Collegiate Professor of Law at the University of Michigan Law School. She joined the faculty in fall 2009 and teaches courses in constitutional law, torts, civil rights, and related subjects focusing on jails and prisons. Schlanger founded and runs the Civil Rights Litigation Clearinghouse and has authored numerous law review articles and casebooks, including 'Incarceration Law.' Adducci', advocating for Iraqi nationals facing deportation, and has been involved in numerous civil rights initiatives related to detention conditions. Schlanger also served as a presidentially appointed officer for civil rights and civil liberties at the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) during the Obama administration, where she contributed to policy-making aimed at reducing sexual abuse in immigration detention. Schlanger's background includes serving as a trial attorney in the DOJ's Civil Rights Division.
