Biography

Maria Argos is an environmental molecular epidemiologist specializing in the effects of metal exposures on cardiometabolic and cancer endpoints throughout the life course. Her research emphasizes identifying molecular pathways altered by environmental exposures and their influence on disease risk, utilizing high-dimensional molecular and biomarker data from biological specimens collected in epidemiological settings. Dr. Argos serves as the principal investigator for the Bangladesh Environmental Research Children's Health (BIRCH) cohort, which evaluates the early life health effects of arsenic exposure and metal mixtures. She is also the principal investigator at a disease study site exploring diabetes and kidney disease progression in collaboration with the Multi-Omics Health Disease Consortium and the Health Effects Arsenic Longitudinal Study (HEALS), located at the Chicago Field Center of the Hispanic Community Health Study. Dr. Argos has extensive experience in implementing longitudinal epidemiologic studies among diverse populations internationally and is particularly interested in developing epidemiological methods to assess gene-environment interactions involving environmental mixtures.
