Dr. Maria Belova

Biography

Maria Belova is an Assistant Professor in the Language Centre at the University of Warwick, specializing in Russian. She completed her PhD in Italian Studies at Warwick in 2018, where her thesis focused on Italian poetry and incorporated Russian formalist approaches. Her academic background includes a five-year degree in History, Literature, and Culture of Russia and Italy from the Russian State University for the Humanities. Prior to her doctoral studies, she gained an advanced qualification in teaching Russian as a foreign language from Moscow University. Belova has extensive teaching experience, having previously lectured at several universities in Moscow, including the Plekhanov Russian University of Economics and the Peoples’ Friendship University of Russia. She has also worked as an interpreter and professional translator. Her broader research interests encompass Comparative Literature, Translation Studies, Audiovisual Translation, Spatiality, Urban Studies, and cultural connections between Italy and Russia, particularly in the context of Twentieth-century Italian poetry.
