Biography

Maria Bokarewa is a Professor and Chief Physician at the University of Gothenburg, specializing in Rheumatology and Inflammation Research. She completed her doctorate in 1991 from the National Academy of Science in Moscow and furthered her studies at the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm in 1995. Her academic career includes postdoctoral research at the Coagulation Research Unit at Karolinska Institute from 1995 to 1998, focusing on genetic factors and hormonal regulation of blood coagulation. Since 1998, Bokarewa has been engaged in clinical duties at the Rheumatology Clinic, Sahlgrenska University Hospital, alongside her research studies on inflammation and immunology. She became an Associate Professor in 2004 and was promoted to full Professor in Translational Rheumatology in March 2012. Bokarewa has received several prestigious awards such as the TrioLab Prize in 1995 and the Nordic Prize in Rheumatology in 2004, as well as recognition from the Swedish Rheumatology Association in 2003, 2004, and 2013 for her contributions to the understanding of rheumatoid arthritis. Her research interests include targeted therapy, immune regulation in autoimmune arthritis, and the molecular mechanisms involved in rheumatoid arthritis. She actively collaborates with a broad network of researchers across Sweden, Europe, and the USA, participating in national and international research programs.
