Biography

Maria Boss began teaching at UCLA Anderson as a lecturer in the summer session of 1995, during which she taught MGMT 108 (Business Law) in regular academic years. Prior to her tenure at UCLA, she was a professor of business law at California State University, Los Angeles, since 1987, where she taught courses in business ethics and government society in the Management Department and business law in the Department of Finance, Law, and Real Estate. She has received several accolades, including the Cal State LA University Outstanding Professor Award and the Cal State LA Distinguished Woman Award. Boss served as chair of the Finance, Law, and Real Estate Department and is now a Professor Emeritus at Cal State LA. Before becoming an academic, she taught English at the high school and middle school levels for four and a half years. Boss practiced corporate transactional law in Los Angeles for eleven years, where she represented management in employment issues. Her research interests encompass corporate governance, insider trading, hedge fund regulation, and employment discrimination, and she has presented papers at over 25 academic conferences. Additionally, she has served as a grader for the California Bar Exam and as a thesis advisor for pre-law students at Cal State LA.
