Biography

Maria Cariola is a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Copenhagen's Department of Food and Resource Economics. With a focus on the intersections of (green) finance, urban studies, and energy resource politics, her research critically examines territorial conflicts in Latin America, particularly in Chile. Currently, she is working on a manuscript titled "Coding Circuit Capital," which interrogates the politics and law surrounding finance and the urban periphery in Valparaíso, Chile. Additionally, Cariola teaches a Master’s course on Interdisciplinary Field Research and supervises master theses. She previously completed her PhD in political ecology at the same department and has coordinated various projects related to environmental conflicts in Latin America. Her academic contributions have included participation in significant webinars and presentations, as well as publications addressing the green energy transition and the socio-political dynamics in Chile. Cariola is multilingual, speaking Danish, English, and Spanish, and has conducted extensive field research in Chile.
