Dr. Maria Ekelin

Biography

Maria Ekelin is an Associate Professor and Senior Lecturer at Lund University, specializing in Midwifery and Reproductive, Perinatal Sexual Health. Her research primarily explores prenatal diagnosis and the experiences, attitudes, and preferences of parents regarding prenatal diagnoses. Additionally, Ekelin investigates youth sexual health and labor augmentation, focusing on how these aspects influence obstetric practices and antenatal care. She has co-supervised doctoral students and is actively involved in pedagogical research aimed at enhancing midwifery education through students’ reflections during clinical placements. Maria's expertise is aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals, particularly aiming to improve maternal and child health. She has contributed to several research projects that promote early childhood health and support parents faced with challenges. With seven published articles, her work emphasizes evidence-based practices and addresses conflicting knowledge in hormonal contraceptives and midwifery care. Ekelin's collaborative research spans multiple disciplines, enhancing the understanding of midwifery and reproductive health in relation to societal needs.
