Dr. Maria Herrera

Biography

Maria Christina Herrera is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Pediatrics at Yale School of Medicine and a faculty scholar at PolicyLab at Children's Hospital Philadelphia. Her work primarily focuses on the intersection of HIV and substance use epidemics among adolescents and young adults, particularly aimed at optimizing access to HIV prevention initiatives for historically marginalized and disenfranchised youth. With a background that includes clinical and research experience across various locations, including domestic training in Philadelphia, New York City, San Francisco, and the Indian Health Service on the White Mountain Apache Reservation in Arizona, she has also worked globally in the Dominican Republic, Peru, and Mexico. Maria completed her undergraduate education with a Bachelor of Arts from Columbia University, received her Medical Degree from Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons, and completed her residency in pediatrics at the University of California, San Francisco. She furthered her education by completing a fellowship in adolescent medicine at Children's Hospital Philadelphia and earning a Master of Science in Health Policy from the University of Pennsylvania.
