Dr. Maria Iliuta

Biography

Maria C. Iliuta is a Full Professor in the Department of Chemical Engineering at Laval University. She obtained her PhD in Chemical Engineering from Université Catholique de Louvain, Belgium, from 1993 to 1996 and completed postdoctoral fellowships in phase equilibrium thermodynamics and separation technologies at the Technical University of Denmark (DTU) and Laval University from 2000 to 2006. Her research interests focus on process intensification, catalysis including heterogeneous, enzymatic, and photo-electro-catalysis, separation processes, CO2 capture, catalytic conversion, industrial residue valorization, and alternative fuels/hydrogen production. She is associated with the Centre for Green Chemistry and Catalysis (CGCC) and the Centre for Research on the Geology and Engineering of Mineral Resources (E4m), among others. Her contributions have earned her several accolades including the Best Teacher Award (Prix Enseignant Méritant) multiple times and the Summa Award for teaching from the Faculty of Science and Engineering. She has a keen interest in advancing the fields of carbon capture engineering and catalytic process engineering, aiming to bridge the gap between theoretical applications and industrial implementation.
