Biography

Maria Lißner is a Mechanical Engineer and an Associate Member of the Faculty at the Royal Academy of Engineering Research Fellowship in the Department of Engineering Science at the University of Oxford. Her research focuses on designing lightweight structures that can endure extreme environments, such as crashes and impacts. Current research interests include the detailed representation of interface characteristics across multiple length scales in heterogeneous materials such as fibre-reinforced polymer composites, adhesive joints, and additively manufactured parts subjected to extreme loading conditions. She is developing innovative experimental techniques for specimen design to evaluate interface characteristics and fracture energy accurately. Maria obtained her DPhil in Engineering Science from the University of Oxford, studying the rate-dependent mechanical performance of adhesively bonded interfaces. Her education includes a Dipl.-Ing. degree in Mechanical Engineering specializing in Lightweight Engineering from TU Dresden, Germany. In her postdoctoral research, she made advancements in dynamic interlaminar fracture mechanics, supporting the design of lightweight systems across various industries like aerospace. Maria is highly involved in advocating research collaborations, promoting sustainable practices, and supporting young researchers in materials' dynamic behaviour. She is an active member of several professional organizations, including the governing board of the DYMAT Association and the Association of German Engineers (VDI).
