Biography

Maria Livanou joined King’s College London in June 2022 as a Senior Lecturer in Child Adolescent Psychology. Her primary research interests encompass transitions of young people in mental health services, particularly the movement of adolescents from forensic hospitals to adult care settings, with a focus on Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS). She also explores eating disorders, conduct disorders, and neurodiversity. Maria is passionate about public engagement, having organized and participated in numerous events and webinars centered on youth mental health. Her advocacy work emphasizes the importance of incorporating lived experience into research to better understand and address mental health challenges faced by young people. Maria completed her PhD at Warwick Medical School in 2018, where her thesis was funded by the NIHR CLAHRC West Midlands. She has taught for four years at Kingston University in the undergraduate and postgraduate programs and has supervised three PhD students focused on conduct disorders and autism.
