Biography

Maria Löblich is a Professor of Communication History and Media Cultures at Freie Universität Berlin. She holds a doctorate from Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich, where she also completed her habilitation. Her academic career began at the University of Leipzig, focusing on media and communication studies and cultural sciences. She has held various academic positions, including being a scientific assistant and an academic councilor. Löblich's research interests include media history, the relationship between East and West Germany, media policies, and collective identity. She has contributed extensively to the field through her writings on qualitative methods and the evolution of communication sciences, addressing topics like the mediatization of society and communication history. She was a fellow at Harvard University's Berkman Center for Internet & Society and has led various projects that bridge historical analysis with current media issues. Her numerous publications reflect her commitment to understanding the transformative power of media within societal contexts.
