Dr. Maria Mayr

Biography

Maria Mayr is a scholar in Comparative Literature specializing in modern languages, literatures, and cultures. She completed her BA in Philosophy and Religion at the University of Toronto, and both her MA and PhD in Comparative Literature from Western University. Her research interests include Memory Studies, 20th and 21st century German-language literature and culture, and intercultural literatures. Mayr’s current research projects investigate post-socialist memory culture and the conceptualization of utopia within transnational European memory. She has authored several key publications on topics such as European identity, nostalgia, and genocide memory within German-language literature. Aside from her scholarly pursuits, she is engaged in experiential learning partnerships, including projects on the East Coast Trail. She actively contributes to the academic community through her teaching and research initiatives, emphasizing interdisciplinary approaches and cultural narratives.
