Biography

María Soledad Montañez is a lecturer in Spanish at the University of Glasgow, focusing on the intersections of language, creativity, and community engagement, particularly with migrant multilingual communities in the UK, including Spanish-speaking Latin American communities in London and Scotland. Her interdisciplinary work draws on Latin American cultural studies, visual cultures, memory, gender studies, and employs a decolonial approach that emphasizes community engagement as a strategic and practice-based method. She has published several scholarly articles in international peer-reviewed journals, contributing extensively to the discourse on Latin American women's writing and cinema. Her research includes policy reports that explore the experiences and contributions of Latin American migrant communities in the UK. Additionally, she serves as the co-convenor for the Glasgow Latin American Research Network and is a research advisor for the Southwark Latin American Network (SLAN). Before joining the University of Glasgow, she lectured at the universities of St Andrews, Stirling, and the Open University in Scotland, and she actively engages in community work supporting Latin American cultural initiatives.
